UC San Diego is committed to maintaining an environment in which all of us can thrive in a community that is free of harassment and discrimination, including sexual harassment and sexual violence. Consistent with federal and state law, the University requires students to complete certain training as a condition of enrollment. Thank you for your commitment to creating a more inclusive environment for all members of our campus community.
UC San Diego prohibits Hazing in violation of the law or campus policy. Each of us shares in the responsibility for preventing hazing and contributing to a welcoming living, learning, and working environment where mutual respect and dignity are upheld, consistent with our Principles of Community. As a condition of enrollment for all incoming students, membership for Intercollegiate Athletics Teams, and registration for Sorority and Fraternity Life and other Student Organizations, individuals must complete a 20-minute self-guided training, “StandUp to Hazing.” This training includes information on recognizing and preventing Hazing, leadership development, hazing laws and campus policies, and UC San Diego reporting options.
UC students have a right to express themselves, engage in dialogue, peaceably assemble, engage in the free exchange of ideas, and participate fully in educational programs free from conduct that creates a hostile environment, results in differential treatment, or infringes on the rights of others. All UC students are required to take the Discourse and Free Expression training and acknowledge the University’s policies, which will take approximately 35 minutes to complete. The training covers information about these rights, dialoguing across difference, reasonable time, place, and manner restrictions, and the policies and reporting options relevant to these ideals.
For questions about training on Hazing and Discourse and Free Expression, please contact the Center for Student Accountability, Growth, and Education (SAGE) at sage@ucsd.edu.
The SHAPE training provides education for all students on content covered by the UC Policies on Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment and Anti-Discrimination, and takes approximately 60 – 75 minutes to complete. The program introduces students to our student community, educational environment, and behavioral expectations at UC San Diego. Students help to shape this community, and we hope that all members of the community take a proactive role in creating a welcoming campus environment for everyone.
For questions about SHAPE training, please contact the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD) at ophd@ucsd.edu.
